In response to an AI-generated video circulating during the Kerala Assembly election, Kerala Police took action to prevent misinformation. The video, which depicted the Prime Minister and other authorities in a misleading manner, was identified on the social media platform X. Concerns were raised about its potential to mislead voters and undermine trust in constitutional institutions.
To address the issue, Kerala Police’s Cyber Operations Wing swiftly moved to restrict the video’s dissemination. Legal notices were sent to the platform hosting the video, demanding its immediate removal in accordance with the Information Technology Act.
A case has been filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram against the account responsible for sharing the video, along with others involved in its creation and distribution. Investigators are working to trace the video’s origin, determine intent, and establish accountability for the misleading content.
Kerala Police emphasized their commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and pledged to take decisive action against any activities that could compromise the fairness of the elections. They urged the public to be cautious and avoid sharing unverified or misleading content, particularly during the election period, as efforts to combat digital misinformation intensify.
