Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju alleged that around 20-25 Congress MPs verbally attacked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rijiju mentioned that the situation could have escalated into chaos if BJP and NDA MPs had not shown restraint. He stated that despite the presence of Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, some Congress MPs used abusive language towards the Speaker and PM.

Rijiju emphasized that while Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not engage in any verbal abuse, other Congress MPs did so in their presence. He highlighted that the government initially refrained from addressing the issue publicly but decided to do so due to what he described as the Congress party’s repeated dissemination of falsehoods. Rijiju expressed skepticism about the possibility of Rahul Gandhi changing his behavior in Parliament.

The minister recalled a past incident involving former BJP leader L.K. Advani, where Advani stressed the importance of maintaining decorum and respecting the parliamentary space. Rijiju shared an earlier post from February 10, showcasing visuals from Parliament and criticizing the behavior of Congress MPs. He underscored the government’s commitment to upholding the dignity and sanctity of the Parliament by preventing a potential confrontation between BJP and Congress MPs.
