Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Indian Youth Congress for their “shirtless” protest at the AI Summit in New Delhi, labeling it a “crime” and “sin” against the nation. He accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of encouraging such behavior to defame the country. Rijiju emphasized the need for the Congress to abandon its anti-national agenda and prioritize national interests over politics.
The Minister expressed disappointment over the Congress leaders’ attempt to justify the protest as a display of youth’s anger, stating that tarnishing the nation’s image on a global platform is unacceptable. He highlighted the importance of presenting a united front for the country at international forums like the UN. Rijiju also criticized the Congress for failing to appreciate the nation’s progress, especially in the digital realm.
Rijiju further accused Rahul Gandhi of collaborating with anti-India forces and undermining the country’s interests. He urged senior Congress leaders to advise Rahul Gandhi to refrain from his anti-national stance, which he believes inspired the Youth Congress protest at the AI Summit. The Minister emphasized the BJP’s commitment to national interests and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to ensure that party activities do not harm the country.
The protest at the AI Summit led to the arrest of four Indian Youth Congress workers. In response, Congress leader Gurdeep Singh Sappal defended the protesters, attributing their actions to frustration over perceived threats to their future and careers. Sappal linked the demonstration to concerns about the India-US trade deal, which he deemed unfavorable.
