Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju recently posted a video from February 4, capturing chaos in the Lok Sabha when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to address the President’s Address. Congress women MPs disrupted the proceedings, leading to the cancellation of the Prime Minister’s speech. The Congress MPs were seen holding banners and placards around the Prime Minister’s seat, prompting the cancellation of his scheduled reply.
Rijiju criticized the Congress party for the behavior of its MPs, calling it degrading. He mentioned that preventing BJP MPs from intervening avoided a potentially ugly confrontation. The controversy arose after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla received information hinting at possible disruptions by opposition MPs, leading to the House’s adjournment to maintain decorum.
The Speaker’s decision to adjourn the House was to prevent any untoward incidents, as there were concerns about opposition MPs gathering around the Prime Minister’s seat. The video shared by Rijiju highlighted the presence of several women MPs from the opposition benches, including Geniben Thakor, Varsha Gaikwad, Jyotimati, R. Sudha, K. Kavya, and Shobha Bachhav, near the Prime Minister’s designated seat.
