Kirstie Gordon, the captain of Nottinghamshire’s Blaze team in English domestic women’s cricket, has decided to return to international cricket with Scotland, over six years after her last appearance for England. The 28-year-old left-arm spinner, who started her international career with Scotland at the age of 14, had shifted her focus to the English domestic system in 2018. Gordon had represented England in the 2018 T20 World Cup and a Test match against Australia in 2019.
“It’s always been in the back of my mind in the last couple of years to return to Scotland, and it has helped having Craig Wallace (Scotland head coach) in my ear! He’s been on the phone a few times and I feel like I’ve really connected with him and his vision for the team,” Gordon expressed in a statement from Cricket Scotland. She also mentioned her excitement to play alongside her friends Kathryn and Sarah Bryce again.
Having played for Scotland in 60 international matches between 2012 and 2017 before switching to England, Gordon, who has recovered from a back injury, is gearing up for the 2026 domestic season and aims to be available for Scotland’s future selections. Scotland’s head coach, Craig Wallace, welcomed Gordon’s decision, emphasizing the strength of the squad and the positive impact of her return on the team’s culture and competitiveness.
Scotland is preparing for the T20 World Cup qualifiers in Nepal in January 2026. Gordon expressed her eagerness to contribute to Scottish cricket’s development, especially in mentoring young spinners. She highlighted her long-term commitment to Cricket Scotland, aiming to support the team’s success and nurture emerging talents for years to come.
