Skipper Shubman Gill’s impressive 85 runs were not enough for Gujarat Titans as Kolkata Knight Riders clinched a 29-run victory, ending GT’s five-match unbeaten streak. KKR’s win keeps their playoff hopes alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Finn Allen’s quick 93, Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s unbeaten 82, and Cameron Green’s 52 not out led KKR to a formidable total of 247/2. Despite Gill’s valiant effort of 85 runs off 49 balls, GT fell short in their chase.
Jos Buttler’s contribution of 57 runs off 35 balls was not enough to steer GT to victory. Sai Sudharsan’s fighting 53 not out off 28 balls was in vain as KKR’s disciplined bowling, including Sunil Narine’s tight spell of 2-29, proved crucial in securing the win.
Chasing a challenging target of 248, GT’s early momentum was disrupted by Sudharsan’s injury and subsequent retirement hurt. Despite Gill’s impressive performance, KKR’s strong bowling attack, especially Narine’s crucial wickets, sealed the victory for the home team.
Cameron Green’s final blow to dismiss Tewatia secured KKR’s win, propelling them to the sixth spot in the IPL 2026 standings, just two points behind fourth-placed Punjab Kings.
