A suspected railway accident near Kerala’s Vyttila has taken a dark turn, revealing a murder case. Police have apprehended a Kochi man, Shaji, for allegedly killing a 35-year-old woman, Sudha Baby, and disguising it as a suicide by dumping her body on a disused railway track. The arrest followed the discovery of crucial CCTV footage and forensic evidence linking Shaji to the crime.
Sudha Baby, a resident of Kottayam, was found dead under the Vyttila flyover on the railway track. Initially mistaken for a train accident, further examination revealed head and facial injuries inconsistent with such an incident, leading to suspicions of foul play. Investigators identified the victim through mobile phones found at the scene, with CCTV footage providing key evidence of Shaji’s involvement.
The CCTV visuals captured Sudha arriving at the track with Shaji in a car late at night. Subsequent footage showed Shaji returning alone to the vehicle with visible bloodstains on his shirt. Police suspect a verbal dispute between the two escalated into murder, with Shaji attempting to stage the scene as a suicide by placing the body on the railway track. However, his plan failed due to the location’s lack of regular train services, leading to his swift identification and arrest.
Shaji, taken into custody for questioning, confessed to the crime during interrogation. The incident occurred beneath the dimly lit Vyttila overbridge, despite the presence of nearby establishments, highlighting the tragic turn of events in this case.
