Kolkata is getting ready for a significant International Yoga Day event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. This event is being hailed as a “festival” by yoga practitioners in the city, marking a unique and exciting occasion for West Bengal. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH, expressed the city’s enthusiasm in welcoming the Prime Minister for the first time in Kolkata.
A ‘Run for Yoga’ event held recently saw around 10,000 participants running at 5:30 in the morning, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in attendance. A grand carnival, including a large drone show and an attempt to set a world record with 500 boats, is scheduled for today. The Prime Minister is expected to lead the event tomorrow morning, with an estimated 30,000 attendees and participation from 10 lakh events alongside PM Modi for the yoga session.
Yoga instructor Raaikotha expressed gratitude towards PM Modi and CM Adhikari for organizing such a massive yoga event in the city, emphasizing that this is not just about yoga but a celebration of the practice. Yogacharya Umang Tyagi shared his pride in practicing yoga with PM Modi, highlighting the inspiration drawn from leaders actively participating in such events. The theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’ was discussed, stressing the importance of maintaining health and lifestyle for graceful aging, especially in a country with a significant youth population like India.
Influencer Rohit Bose noted Kolkata’s creative spirit and welcomed the unique initiative happening for the first time in the city. He believes that such events will encourage the people of Kolkata to embrace yoga in their daily lives, fostering a healthier lifestyle and well-being for the community.
