Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has given Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member, an additional 10 days to address notices concerning his 17 properties. Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was initially required to respond by midnight on Monday. However, his counsel requested more time, leading to the extension granted by KMC authorities.
The notices in question raised queries about whether proper permissions were obtained for any construction activities at Abhishek Banerjee’s residences. The KMC sent the notices to Abhishek Banerjee to seek clarification before taking any further action. Meanwhile, plainclothes Kolkata Police officers unexpectedly visited Abhishek Banerjee’s residence, “Santiniketan,” in south Kolkata, without providing any prior information to the media.
Following their visit, the police officers were seen leaving the premises with a monitor, which they placed in a white vehicle marked with “Kolkata Police.” Subsequently, a car registered under a company associated with the Banerjee family departed from the property. The house “Santiniketan” is also registered under the same company with the municipality, leading to speculation about the purpose of the police visit to the MP’s residence.
