The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has sent a notice to Amit Banerjee, father of Abhishek Banerjee, seeking explanations for alleged building-rule violations at two properties in Kalighat, south Kolkata. Amit Banerjee has been directed to appear before the Buildings Department of KMC’s Borough IX office with relevant documents. It is uncertain if he will comply with the directive.

The Corporation is currently investigating irregularities in constructions linked to the Banerjee family in Kalighat to determine compliance with KMC rules. Officials are specifically looking into whether the construction at these properties adhered to approved specifications and building plans.

Recent inspections by KMC officials at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat have led to notices being served to household members. Subsequently, Amit Banerjee and his wife, Lata Banerjee, have approached the Calcutta High Court to challenge the notices, asserting that the constructions were in line with KMC regulations and no rules were breached.

Under Section 401 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980, the notices were issued, enabling the civic body to request approved building plans and construction-related documents for verification. Properties owned by Leaps & Bounds Private Limited, where Amit Banerjee is a director, are also under KMC scrutiny.
