Kolkata Police have apprehended a young woman for allegedly stealing gold jewelry, cash, and documents from a couple originating from Bihar. The arrest took place late Tuesday night after the couple reported the incident at Girish Park police station. The stolen items have been recovered.
The couple from Bihar had boarded a bus at Mahajati Sadan in North Kolkata and later realized their bag was missing upon disembarking. The missing items included gold jewelry, cash, and important documents. Sandeep Kumar, from Katihar district in Bihar, promptly filed a complaint at Girish Park police station on the same day.
The complaint detailed the theft of two gold bangles, a necklace, a bracelet, totaling 53 grams in weight, along with Rs 25,000 in cash and an original Aadhaar card. Subsequently, the police swiftly acted and arrested 26-year-old Pinky Roy from Asansol. Following interrogation, the money, jewelry, and documents belonging to Sandeep Kumar were recovered from the suspect.
Authorities have scheduled the accused woman to appear in court on February 5. A senior officer from Kolkata Police commended the officers’ efficiency in apprehending the suspect and recovering the stolen items. Investigations are ongoing to determine if others were involved in the crime or if the woman acted alone, as well as to ascertain if similar crimes were previously committed using the same modus operandi.
