The Cyber Crime Branch of Kolkata Police apprehended four individuals from Bihar and one from Maharashtra in connection with various cyber crimes. The arrests followed a raid in the Maheshtala area near Kolkata based on credible information received by the police.
The arrested individuals, identified as Abhimanyu Kumar alias Raja Kumar (22), Md. Samar (20), Niraj Kumar (28), MD. Imran (19) from Aurangabad, Bihar, and Cezane Philips (22) from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, were found in possession of 10 laptops, 24 Android mobile phones, two routers, and incriminating screenshots.
These individuals were involved in creating and distributing malicious APK files through advertisements and links on social media platforms. By coercing victims to install these files, the perpetrators gained unauthorized access to their devices, including financial applications, to siphon funds from their bank accounts.
The investigation revealed that the arrested individuals were part of an organized criminal group, working in collaboration with previously apprehended suspects. Kolkata Police officials stated that the accused will be presented in court for further proceedings and interrogation to uncover additional accomplices in this criminal network.
