Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a criminal-linked syndicate case. The ED had previously issued multiple summons to Biswas, who had failed to appear, leading to a lookout notice being issued against him to prevent him from leaving the country.
The investigation by the ED is focused on a money laundering case involving an alleged criminal-linked syndicate led by Sona Pappu alias Biswajit Poddar. Sona Pappu, residing in Ballygunge, faces charges such as land grabbing and extortion, with additional allegations under the Arms Act. The ED’s probe has already resulted in the arrest of businessman Joy Kamdar.
Following a raid on Biswas’s residence based on case information, the ED had summoned Biswas and his two sons, Sayantan and Manish, for questioning. Despite the summons, none of them appeared at the ED office. Biswas, a former Officer-in-Charge of Kalighat police station, had also been summoned earlier in connection with a sand smuggling case but had not complied, citing a busy schedule.
