Kolkata Police has enforced restrictions on victory celebrations on Monday, the day of counting for the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. The move aims to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful environment in Kolkata following the announcement of election results. The restriction applies to all political parties without exception, with no victory celebrations permitted on Monday.
The notification states that due to the ongoing counting process of the General Election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, no victory processions, rallies, or public celebrations related to election results will be allowed on May 4, 2026. Victory processions, if any, can be conducted on May 5 or later only after obtaining prior permission from the Officer-in-Charge of the relevant police station.
All permitted processions must adhere strictly to the existing rules and guidelines, as well as any conditions imposed in the permission. Any violation of these directives will result in appropriate legal action under the relevant laws. The Officers-in-Charge of all Kolkata Police stations are instructed to ensure compliance with this notification.
At 2 P.M., the BJP is leading in 193 seats in West Bengal, while Trinamool Congress candidates are ahead in 95 seats. Vote counting is ongoing, with final results expected later in the evening.
