Across West Bengal, temperatures have been steadily declining, with winter firmly setting in during the final week of December. On Friday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius, significantly below normal.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Alipore forecasts similar temperatures in the coming days with a possibility of further drops. Kolkata is expected to have clear skies with morning fog likely. A fog warning has been issued for South Bengal, with visibility expected to reduce due to light to moderate fog.
Sriniketan in Birbhum district emerged as the coldest place in south Bengal, recording a minimum temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius, lower than some parts of north Bengal. Other areas in the state also experienced low temperatures, with Darjeeling recording 5.8 degrees Celsius and Kalimpong at 9.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
Temperatures in various districts ranged from 9.9 to 12.6 degrees Celsius, indicating a widespread cooling trend across West Bengal. The weather pattern suggests that north Bengal will not see significant temperature changes in the next week.
