The Kuki Inpi Manipur has urged for a three-day total shutdown in all Kuki-Zo inhabited areas of Manipur following the tragic killing of three Baptist Church leaders in Kangpokpi district. The organization strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep sorrow over the deaths of the church leaders and injuries sustained by five others in what was described as a brutal assault. Allegations were made by the Kuki Inpi Manipur Secretary for Information and Publicity, blaming the ZUF-Kamson faction and other armed groups for the attack.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur has announced the shutdown starting from midnight on May 13 until midnight on May 15 in solidarity with the deceased church leaders. During this period, all businesses, government offices, schools, and vehicular movement will be halted, except for essential services like medical facilities and emergency operations. Candlelight vigils are planned by churches to honor the victims and pray for justice, peace, and healing.
Various organizations and individuals, including Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, have denounced the killings and demanded severe punishment for the perpetrators. Among those condemning the attack are the Naga Legislature Forum, the Kuki Students’ Organisation, the Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust, and other community and church bodies. The tragic incident occurred when unidentified armed individuals ambushed vehicles in Kangpokpi district, resulting in the death of three Kuki community members, who were Baptist Church leaders.
