The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait expressed deep concern over these assaults, labeling them as a violation of the consulate’s inviolability and hindrance to Iraq’s compliance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. The Kuwaiti government has called on Iraq to take immediate and firm actions against those responsible for the attacks.
In response to the ongoing violence, Kuwait emphasized the necessity for the Iraqi government to swiftly hold the perpetrators accountable and prevent any future occurrences. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the importance of safeguarding the diplomatic and consular missions of Kuwait in Iraq, ensuring their security and the well-being of their staff. Kuwait previously lodged a formal protest following an attack on its consulate in Basra, urging Iraq to enhance protection for all Kuwaiti diplomatic missions within its borders.
Reports indicated that protesters had breached the Kuwait Consulate in Basra after a rocket attack in the Khor Al-Zubair area resulted in casualties. Security forces intervened by using tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. Iraq’s foreign ministry denounced the assault and initiated an investigative committee to address the incident and pursue legal actions against the offenders.
