Kuwait expressed strong condemnation towards Yemen’s Houthi group for their threats against Saudi Arabian shipping. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait emphasized its unwavering support for Riyadh, highlighting the importance of upholding freedom of navigation as per international law.
The Kuwaiti ministry denounced the Houthi group’s accusations against Saudi Arabia as baseless and called for the protection of maritime navigation freedom and security. It urged the global community to enforce UN Security Council resolutions, specifically Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen and Resolution 2722 aimed at safeguarding navigation in the Red Sea, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
In a show of solidarity, Kuwait reiterated its full support for Saudi Arabia, endorsing any necessary actions taken by the kingdom to ensure its security and sovereignty. This statement followed the Houthi group’s announcement of a ban on Saudi-related shipping, citing alleged airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport by Riyadh.
The Saudi-led coalition responded by pledging decisive measures to safeguard commercial shipping passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, cautioning against any threats from the Houthi faction. A senior Houthi official warned of potential repercussions, stating that the group is prepared to counter any perceived blockade on Yemen by Saudi Arabia.
