Rallies, demonstrations, and awareness campaigns marked International Labour Day in various parts of Balochistan and Sindh, Pakistan. Workers, supported by trade unions and civil society groups, highlighted their demands for fair wages, improved working conditions, job security, and access to social protection systems. Speakers stressed the importance of implementing labor laws and ensuring timely rights for workers without discrimination.
Concerns over inflation, unemployment, and inadequate safety measures in workplaces were voiced by workers during the events. They urged the government to address these challenges promptly and prioritize the welfare and dignity of the labor force through effective policies. Labourers, trade unions, and political leaders in Sindh also organized rallies, seminars, and public meetings to address the issues faced by workers and advocate for urgent reforms.
At various gatherings, labor leaders, human rights activists, and civil society members called for fair wages, job security, and the protection of workers’ rights in both formal and informal sectors. The need for written job contracts, social security, pensions, and the right to form unions was emphasized by protesters marching in Karachi. They criticized policies like privatization and outsourcing for weakening job security and increasing exploitation.
Women workers from Sindh highlighted their specific concerns, including the lack of service structure, low wages, and pension issues, during a rally organized by the All Lady Health Workers Programme Union. They also addressed challenges such as harassment and unequal pay faced by women in the workforce.
