A 45-year-old labourer, Gaya Prasad, lost his life after being buried under loose soil during sewer line excavation at Kakraha Ghat in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred while he was working at the site, with the accident taking place around 11 a.m. amidst a project related to Ganga pollution control. Assistant Commissioner of Police Nikita Srivastava mentioned that emergency teams were promptly dispatched to the location upon receiving the report at Kareli police station.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police teams swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate a rescue operation. The loose soil’s nature led to the burial of the labourer, prompting the deployment of two JCB machines to aid in the recovery process. After several hours of rescue efforts, the trapped labourer’s body was successfully retrieved, while the other labourer at the site remained unharmed.
The incident drew a large crowd of local residents to the area as news spread, underscoring concerns regarding safety protocols at construction and excavation sites, particularly in regions with unstable soil conditions. Authorities are set to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine if adequate safety measures were in place. Further inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
