The proposal to extend the workdays under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to 125 days a year with the new VB-G RAM G legislation has been positively received by laborers and landless individuals. In Bhopal district, Madhya Pradesh, residents from low-income households have embraced the changes in the revised law, believing it will enhance opportunities for unskilled workers in rural areas. Many locals expressed their approval of the new scheme, anticipating improved employment prospects that would better support their families. Some also mentioned challenges faced under the previous MGNREGA scheme. They credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing the welfare of the farming community and integrating them into the Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative. Vandana, a female worker, highlighted the brighter employment outlook under the new legislation compared to the previous 100-day work limit of MNREGA. She thanked PM Modi and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the scheme upgrade, foreseeing more efficient household budgeting. Chandu, another laborer under MNREGA, expressed satisfaction with the enhanced employment opportunities provided by the revamped scheme. Pankaj, a villager, appreciated the government’s decision to increase the workdays from 100 to 125. Vishal believed that the new G RAM G would promote self-sufficiency among villagers, addressing the shortcomings of the former employment system. The MGNREGA, initially introduced by the Congress-UPA government, guaranteed 100 days of work for unskilled rural laborers to support their livelihoods, now to be replaced by the VB-G RAM G legislation.
