The Lalgola police station in West Bengal has sent a notice to Raihan Ali, the son-in-law of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir, regarding a heroin smuggling case. Raihan has been instructed to meet the investigating officer by 11 am on February 28. The police claim that Raihan is involved in a case under the Narcotics Control Act (NDPS).
According to police sources, Raihan was not present at home when the notice was delivered, so it was given to his family members. Properties belonging to Raihan, his father Shariful Islam, and Humayun’s daughter Nazma Sultana were seized by the police during the investigation on February 8 and 9. Allegedly, 11 properties purchased with drug money have been identified, valued at over 15 crore rupees.
Humayun Kabir has denied the accusations against his son-in-law, stating that Raihan is being falsely implicated in a political conspiracy. Kabir mentioned that Raihan was pressured to join the Trinamool party and offered to contest from the Lalgola Assembly constituency. However, Raihan refused the offer, leading to his alleged framing in the case.
Kabir emphasized that Raihan will not seek anticipatory bail and will not appear at the police station as directed. He warned that if his son-in-law is arrested, there will be consequences for the government. An official from the Murshidabad district police confirmed that the investigation is progressing based on specific evidence.
