A ceremony was held to transfer 18.8 acres of land from the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School in Chumoukedima to the Airports Authority of India for expanding Dimapur Airport. The event, attended by officials including the Dimapur Airport Director and Assam Rifles Commandant, signified a crucial step towards the airport’s development.
Officials inspected the identified area within the training center premises during the program. A formal handover ceremony took place in the presence of senior state government officials, advancing the long-pending expansion of Dimapur Airport. Discussions also revolved around the transfer of additional land needed for the airport’s Phase-II expansion.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in Dimapur Airport’s development plan. Nagaland Chief Minister had previously sought intervention from the Union Home Minister to facilitate the transfer of the 18.8 acres crucial for the airport’s expansion. Despite the establishment of an alternative training center and school for Assam Rifles, delays in transferring the remaining land had hindered infrastructure works at the airport.
Efforts to expand Dimapur Airport have faced challenges due to unresolved land issues, impacting its operational and safety concerns. The airport, vital for connecting Nagaland with the country, serves a wide radius including parts of Assam and Manipur. The master plan for the airport’s phased development has been stalled, awaiting the necessary land transfers.
