The Department of Land Resources Secretary, Narendra Bhooshan, met with a delegation of World Bank experts led by the Country Director for India, Paul Procee in New Delhi. They discussed developing a framework tailored to India for evaluating land governance reforms across states. This framework aims to enable progress benchmarking, share best practices, and implement evidence-based policy interventions in the land sector.
The World Bank delegation shared insights on international experiences and global best practices concerning land administration, digital land records, property governance, institutional strengthening, and technology adoption. The discussions also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, policy research, and capacity building in this domain.
Bhooshan highlighted the significance of land as a crucial asset for Indian households, playing a vital role in agricultural productivity, rural prosperity, urban development, financial inclusion, and economic growth. He stressed the underutilized economic potential of land in India and advocated for modern, transparent, and technology-driven land governance systems to enhance property rights security, access to credit, investment support, and citizen services.
