Last-minute preparations are in progress at dispersal centers for the crucial re-polling in Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas scheduled for Thursday. Polling personnel are ready, and deployment activities are smoothly advancing, as per sources from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal. Security measures, including a significant deployment of 35 companies of Central Armed Police Forces personnel, are in place to ensure a smooth, fair, and peaceful re-polling process.
The re-polling for Falta, initially held on April 29 during the second phase of the Assembly elections, faced allegations of electoral malpractices, including covering BJP candidates’ EVM buttons with white tape. Following an inquiry by special poll observer Subrata Gupta, the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered a re-poll across the entire constituency. The results of the re-polling are set to be announced on May 24.
Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan has announced his withdrawal from the contest, expressing confidence in Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s development promises for Falta. Despite Khan’s decision, his name will still appear on the EVM as a Trinamool Congress candidate during the re-poll on May 21. The CEO’s office emphasized that the re-poll is a continuation of the earlier polling process, with no changes in the candidates contesting from Falta.
