Leeds United secured a crucial 2-1 victory against 10-man Manchester United at Old Trafford, marking their first win at the venue in 44 years. Noah Okafor’s two goals in the first half proved decisive, helping Leeds move six points clear of the relegation zone and handing Man Utd coach Michael Carrick his first home defeat since taking charge.
Okafor opened the scoring early in the match and added a second goal before the half-hour mark, while Ao Tanaka missed a chance to extend the lead. Despite Lisandro Martinez receiving a red card in the second half for an incident involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Leeds managed to withstand pressure from Man Utd, with Casemiro’s goal making the final moments tense.
With this win, Leeds United remains in the 15th position, strengthening their fight against relegation, while Carrick’s team stays level on points with Aston Villa and just three points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League standings.
“We knew what we had to do from the beginning. The manager prepared us really well, so everyone knew what we had to do. We said before the game, everyone has to give one hundred percent. We have to fight for these points and it is really important, and in the end we did it, so I am really happy about that,” expressed Okafor.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke expressed his delight after leading his team to their first league victory at Old Trafford since 1981, highlighting the outstanding achievement under challenging circumstances during a crucial period of the season.
