Veteran actress Leena Chandavarkar fondly reminisced about the day when iconic singer Kishore Kumar proposed to her during their first meeting. She playfully declined his proposal after questioning him about his previous marriages to Madhubala and Yogita Bali. This revelation took place on an episode of ‘Indian Idol’ where she shared cherished memories of the legendary singer and actor with host Aditya Narayan.
Leena confirmed that Kishore Kumar had indeed proposed to her during their initial encounter and that she had turned him down. She recalled how he expressed his desire to cast her in a film with a significant role and then casually mentioned the idea of marriage. Surprised by his proposal, she humorously responded, referring to his past marriages and questioning his sudden interest in marriage.
During their conversation, Kishore Kumar, who had been previously married to Ruma Guha Thakurta, Madhubala, and Yogita Bali, proposed to Leena, who later became his wife in 1980. She shared how their meeting and subsequent interactions changed her perspective during a challenging phase in her life. The couple remained together until Kishore Kumar’s passing in 1987, and they had a son named Sumit Kumar.
