The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) are pivotal players in Tamil Nadu’s evolving political scenario. Their support may decide the formation of the next government, with actor-politician C. Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in contention against a potential alliance involving the DMK and the AIADMK.
Amid uncertainty post-election results, DMK leader M.K. Stalin engaged in discussions with CPI-M State Secretary P. Shanmugam, CPI State Secretary M. Veerapandian, and VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan. The talks revolved around potential support to the AIADMK for government formation to avert prolonged political instability in the state.
With no clear majority in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, these parties, collectively holding six MLAs, play a significant role. The CPI-M and CPI leaders informed Stalin that their state committees would deliberate on the matter before making a final decision in upcoming meetings.
Thol. Thirumavalavan of VCK hinted at aligning with the Communist parties’ stance. The Left parties and VCK are navigating ideological principles and the necessity for political stability in Tamil Nadu post a fractured mandate, a situation unprecedented in the state’s politics.
The DMK Legislature Party meeting is set to empower Stalin to make decisions regarding potential support to an AIADMK-led government. While the DMK is leaning towards offering external support rather than joining the administration, alliance partners may independently choose their involvement in any coalition setup.
