The legal proceedings in the Rohit Shetty firing incident are gaining pace. Vishnu Kushwaha, the accused, appeared before a special MCOCA court in Mumbai on Monday. He has been remanded to the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch until February 25, 2026. The Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (Mah. 30/1999) was enacted by the state of Maharashtra to combat organized crime and terrorism in 1999.
The Mumbai Police has identified Deepak Chandra as the individual who fired shots at Rohit Shetty’s residence. The investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch revealed that the vehicle used in the shooting was obtained from Pune. It was disclosed earlier that the culprit Subham Lonkar aimed to instill fear in Mumbai and had instructed the arrested accused to carry out a significant act in the city.
The vehicle used in the shooting was originally owned by a Pune resident who sold it to Aditya Gayki, one of the arrested individuals, for Rs 30,000. Aditya Gayki and another accused, Samarth Pomaji, left the vehicle in a predetermined location in the Juhu area of Mumbai. According to the Crime Branch, the individuals who transported the vehicle to Mumbai were unaware of the identity of the shooter. Subsequently, Shubham Lonkar directed the shooter to retrieve the vehicle and open fire.
