The LNG tanker ‘Disha’ has completed its journey, arriving at Dahej Port in Gujarat after crossing the Strait of Hormuz. Carrying 62,370 metric tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the vessel’s arrival marks a significant delivery for India’s energy supply chain.
Operated by a consortium led by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and chartered for Petronet LNG Limited, the vessel had been stationed in the Gulf region amidst geopolitical tensions. Its safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime chokepoint, is crucial for India’s energy security.
Loaded at Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG terminal, the LNG cargo’s arrival at Dahej, India’s largest LNG import hub, is expected to enhance LNG availability and ensure stable energy supplies for both industrial and domestic use.
Amidst recent tensions in West Asia, the safe arrival of the LNG carrier ‘Disha’ provides relief to stakeholders in India’s energy sector. The completion of this voyage highlights the significance of secure maritime routes for uninterrupted energy imports into India.
