The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has revealed Ashraf Ansari as its candidate for the Bihar Legislative Council elections, following the BJP and JD(U)’s lead. This completes the list of nominees from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming elections. The BJP’s candidates include Pawan Singh, Sanjay Mayukh, Anil Kumar Thakur, and Sheila Pandit, while JD(U) has put forward Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, Shivrani Prajapati, and Lalan Prasad (by-election).
Political analysts anticipate that the NDA, based on its current strength in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, is well-placed to secure nine out of the ten available Legislative Council seats. The exclusion of Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash from the candidate list has sparked discussions, seen as a notable setback for him and Upendra Kushwaha’s party. Prakash, a minister in the Bihar government without legislative membership, faces a constitutional requirement to secure election or nomination within six months of assuming office.
The completion of the NDA’s candidate selection process sheds light on the alliance’s electoral strategy for the Bihar Legislative Council polls. The absence of Deepak Prakash’s name from the list has raised questions about his political future and the NDA’s approach to addressing the constitutional mandate regarding his ministerial position.
