After a tumultuous session the day before, the Lok Sabha reconvened on Tuesday but was adjourned just 9 minutes after starting. The adjournment occurred amidst uproar from the Opposition regarding Monday’s events when Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, attempted to discuss the 2020 Ladakh standoff issue, referencing an unpublished memoir of former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane (Retd.). Despite interruptions from the treasury benches demanding credible sources, Gandhi persisted in raising the issue for national security reasons.
Chaos ensued in the House as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey questioned the authenticity of Gandhi’s statements. Despite the disruptions, Gandhi remained steadfast in addressing the Ladakh standoff issue for national security concerns. Amidst the commotion, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the importance of presenting a united front for the nation’s benefit.
During the debate on the President’s address in the ongoing Budget Session, Gandhi highlighted details of the Ladakh standoff with China in 2020, prompting the Central government to clarify its stance on the matter. The ensuing protests and disruptions by Congress MPs led to continued sloganeering in the House, resulting in Speaker Birla adjourning the session until 12 p.m.
