The Lok Sabha session on Tuesday was adjourned just a minute after reconvening at 11:00 a.m., with proceedings lasting only one minute. Opposition MPs continued their sloganeering, demanding that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, be allowed to speak on the Union Budget. Despite being given permission to speak on the budget, Gandhi insisted on discussing an “unpublished book” by former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane (Retd.).
The Speaker’s assurance to Gandhi that he could speak before the budget discussions led to a rebuttal from Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, causing chaos and resulting in an adjournment for the day. The Lok Sabha reconvened at 2 p.m. but was adjourned again just seven minutes later.
During the session, Congress member Shashi Tharoor was called to speak on the budget, but he requested that the Leader of Opposition be given the opportunity to speak. Despite claims by Gandhi that the Speaker had promised him a chance to speak, the session was adjourned due to continued disruptions by Opposition MPs.
The Opposition’s refusal to maintain silence and their persistent sloganeering led to the adjournment of the House for the day. Earlier on Monday, Speaker Birla had suspended the session due to slogan chanting by Opposition members, who were requesting the Leader of the Opposition to address the House. However, disruptions continued, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the session.
