Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted the importance of integrating agriculture, knowledge, research, and innovation for India’s progress towards Viksit Bharat @2047. He stressed that agriculture is not only crucial for the economy but also deeply rooted in India’s culture, ensuring food security, rural prosperity, and social stability. Birla spoke at the national conference “Sustainable Agriculture for Viksit Bharat@2047: Tradition, Technology and Tangible Outcomes,” jointly organized by ABRSM, ICAR, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Amid global challenges like climate change and food security, Birla emphasized the need to blend traditional agricultural wisdom with modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence and climate-resilient innovations. He underlined that agriculture plays a central role in India’s vision of development by promoting food security, rural prosperity, social harmony, and inclusive growth. Birla acknowledged the significance of agricultural universities, research institutions, scientists, and innovators in shaping the future of Indian agriculture.
The Lok Sabha Speaker also discussed the transformative impact of next-generation technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital farming on enhancing agricultural precision and productivity. He called for the expansion of agro-based industries, food processing units, and agri-startups to drive rural development and improve farmers’ livelihoods. Birla stressed the importance of water conservation, micro-irrigation, soil health management, quality seeds, optimized fertilizer use, and climate-resilient crop varieties for sustainable agriculture.
Recognizing the role of youth, women, and grassroots innovation in energizing the rural economy, Birla urged collaboration among teachers, scientists, researchers, policymakers, and farmers to develop self-reliant agricultural models for long-term prosperity.
