Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and rising star Sakshi Chaudhary earned spots on India’s boxing teams for the Asian Games 2026 and Commonwealth Games 2026 after winning at the national trials in Patiala. Lovlina secured her place by defeating Sanamacha Chanu in the women’s 75kg final with a 5-0 victory, ensuring her participation in both major events.
Lovlina narrowly missed direct qualification at the Asian Boxing Championships last month but clinched her spot through the trials as per the Boxing Federation of India’s selection policy. Sakshi Chaudhary also shone at the trials, winning the women’s 51kg category by defeating Minakshi Hooda in the final, after previously beating Nikhat Zareen in the semifinals.
The trials saw Sakshi’s impressive streak continue, establishing her as a top boxing prospect in India. Several other Indian boxers, including Sachin Siwach, Preeti Pawar, and Priya Ghanghas, had already qualified based on their performances at the Asian Championships. The Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, while the Asian Games 2026 are scheduled for Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
