A low-pressure area over the Karnataka coast and Andhra Pradesh is set to affect Tamil Nadu’s weather, causing widespread rainfall in various districts today. The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Particularly intense conditions are expected in western and southern Tamil Nadu.
Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph may occur in isolated areas like Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Kanyakumari. Similar weather patterns are anticipated in hilly regions such as Coimbatore, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli. This rainfall activity could offer relief from the prevailing heat, although daytime temperatures are likely to stay normal in the coming days.
The weather department foresees little change in maximum temperatures from June 8 to June 11 in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Despite the showers, heat-related discomfort may persist in some areas due to high temperatures and humidity. Chennai and its suburbs are expected to experience partly cloudy skies with sporadic light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat stress and be vigilant for sudden thunderstorm activity, especially during outdoor activities. The Meteorological Department recommends staying updated with official weather advisories as rainfall patterns may vary by district, depending on local atmospheric conditions.
