The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has ensured the uninterrupted supply of LPG to domestic households, with no dry outs reported at distributorships. More than 5.01 lakh PNG connections have been converted to gas since March, and over 5.68 lakh new customers have been registered. Additionally, 19.28 lakh 5-kg LPG cylinders have been sold, mainly benefiting migrant workers.
A total of 1,23,680 metric tonnes of commercial LPG has been sold in April, equivalent to over 65 lakh 19 Kg LPG cylinders. Online LPG bookings have surged to 98%, with delivery based on authentication codes reaching around 93% to prevent diversions. A committee comprising Executive Directors from IOCL, HPCL, and BPCL is coordinating with state authorities and industry bodies for commercial LPG distribution planning.
The Ministry emphasized the need to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG, urging citizens to rely on official sources for accurate information. Refineries are operating at full capacity with ample crude inventories, ensuring sufficient stocks of petrol, diesel, and increased local LPG production. Despite geopolitical tensions, the government guarantees 100% supply of domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG for vehicles.
To meet commercial LPG demand, priority is given to hospitals, educational institutions, and sectors like pharma, steel, and agriculture. Measures such as enhancing refinery production, extending booking intervals, and providing alternative fuels like kerosene and coal have been implemented to manage demand effectively. Coal India and Singareni Collieries are directed to supply additional coal to states for distribution to small and medium consumers.
