In Cuttack district, the police have apprehended Malay Kumar Samal for the suspected murder of his 28-year-old wife, Banita Sethi. Malay, a mason from Bhatimunda village, developed a romantic relationship with Banita, leading to their marriage in Balikuda.
The couple resided in Jagatsinghpur post-marriage, but their relationship soured when Malay allegedly engaged in an extramarital affair with a female friend of Banita. Tensions escalated, resulting in frequent disputes between the couple. The situation deteriorated, culminating in Banita’s tragic death by strangulation.
Following a complaint by Banita’s family, Malay was taken into custody and subsequently confessed to the crime. The police recovered Banita’s body from the Mendhakhai River bank based on Malay’s disclosure. Authorities are now pursuing the victim’s female friend, suspected to be involved in the crime.
