Amid family allegations that the individual killed in a Ganderbal district encounter on March 31 was an innocent civilian, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has initiated a magisterial investigation. The inquiry, to be completed within seven days, will delve into the incident in Arhama village following a search and cordon operation by security forces, where a terrorist was reported to have been neutralized.
The office of the L-G stated that the probe would comprehensively assess all aspects of the situation to ensure justice prevails. The District Magistrate of Ganderbal has been tasked with conducting a thorough and impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of Raashid Ahmad Mughal, as per the communication from the Home Department.
Raashid Ahmad Mughal’s family asserts his innocence and disassociation from any terrorist activities, contradicting the official account. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti have echoed concerns over the incident, advocating for a transparent and prompt investigation to address the family’s claims and uphold credibility.
