The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, set to take place in India next month. Prince’s exceptional performance in the IPL 2026, where he secured 16 wickets, led to his selection.
Goenka lauded Prince for his remarkable display of pace, control, and composure under pressure during the IPL season. Despite Lucknow’s mixed campaign, Prince emerged as a pivotal player in LSG’s bowling lineup. Following the squad announcement, Goenka shared his excitement for Prince’s achievement, highlighting the young bowler’s determination and courage to compete at the highest level. He expressed pride in Prince’s progress and wished him success in representing India.
India is gearing up to face Afghanistan in a solitary Test starting on June 6, followed by the ODI series commencing from June 14 to June 20. Shubman Gill will lead the team in both formats, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain in the Test squad. In the ODI lineup, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will bolster the batting order, while Ishan Kishan joins as the second wicketkeeper. The Test squad introduces fresh talents like Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, and Harsh Dubey, with the absence of senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who has been rested for the longer format fixture.
