In Ranchi’s Doranda police station area, a disturbing incident unfolded when a young man was pulled for several kilometers by a luxury Mercedes car after he objected to the vehicle hitting a woman. The driver, identified as High Court advocate Manoj Tandon, has been arrested. The event transpired near Rajendra Chowk in the Doranda region of the city.
The Mercedes initially collided with a woman, prompting the young man present to raise objections and try to halt the car. However, the driver purportedly attempted to strike him. Despite the youth getting trapped on the car’s hood, the driver persisted in driving for several kilometers without halting. Home Guard personnel along the route attempted to intercept the car but were unsuccessful.
Allegedly, the accused later took the injured youth to his home, where he was reportedly assaulted. Promptly informed, the police initiated a rapid operation, pursued the vehicle, and rescued the youth. The implicated lawyer was apprehended, and the injured young man was taken for medical evaluation.
In the aftermath, a sizable crowd congregated outside the Doranda police station, demanding stringent action against the lawyer. The situation also reached the Jharkhand High Court’s attention. The Bar Association informed the court of the lawyer’s detention and requested protection for him from potential mob violence.
During the hearing, a bench led by Chief Justice M.S. Sonak emphasized that everyone is subject to the law and instructed the police to act rigorously within legal frameworks. While refusing immediate relief, the court directed the state’s Advocate General to collaborate with the police to ensure the lawyer’s safety. Police mentioned that investigations are ongoing, with all facets of the incident under scrutiny.
