Madhya Pradesh BJP has refuted social media claims suggesting that the state government intends to establish separate liquor stores for women. The party clarified that the proposal, initially introduced by the previous Congress government in February 2020 under Kamal Nath’s leadership, is being inaccurately associated with the current BJP administration. BJP’s state media in-charge, Ashish Agarwal, emphasized that the decision was made by the Congress government and was never implemented after the BJP took office in March 2020.
The BJP highlighted its opposition to the idea while in the Opposition, leading to the withdrawal of the proposal by the Congress government. The party affirmed that there are no ongoing considerations within the present state government or the BJP regarding the establishment of separate liquor outlets for women. Agarwal reiterated the government’s stance on promoting a society free from substance abuse, citing the closure of liquor shops near religious sites and other sensitive areas as evidence of their commitment.
Emphasizing that the BJP has never supported the concept of women-specific liquor stores, the party urged the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed social media content. The BJP cautioned against the dissemination of misinformation linking decisions of the former Congress government to the current BJP leadership. The clarification was issued in response to circulating social media posts alleging the state’s intention to introduce separate liquor shops for women.
