A recent Council of Ministers meeting in Bhopal, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, resulted in significant decisions to enhance infrastructure, healthcare, irrigation, and social security in Madhya Pradesh. The Council sanctioned over Rs 29,540 crore for various developmental initiatives and welfare programs, emphasizing the government’s dedication to comprehensive progress. Notably, a substantial amount of Rs 15,598 crore was allocated for scrutinizing and approving publicly funded projects and schemes under the Finance Department during the 16th Central Finance Commission’s term from April 2026 to March 2031.
To bolster urban infrastructure, an approval of Rs 6,900 crore was granted for the construction and improvement of municipal roads. Of this allocation, Rs 2,100 crore is designated for new constructions and upgrades, while Rs 4,800 crore will be utilized for strengthening existing roads. In the social security domain, Rs 6,115.99 crore was earmarked for pensions under the “Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme,” ensuring regular support for elderly citizens below the poverty line.
Healthcare expansion received a significant boost with a revised sanction of Rs 763.40 crore for establishing medical, nursing, and paramedical colleges in Budni, Sehore district. This initiative encompasses a new medical college with 100 MBBS seats, a 500-bed hospital, and dedicated nursing and paramedical colleges. Furthermore, irrigation facilities will be enhanced through the Khumansingh Shivaji Reservoir Micro-Irrigation Project in Neemuch district, approved at a cost of Rs 163.95 crore, benefiting numerous villages and farmland.
The Council also increased the discretionary grant for Ministers of State from Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000 per case, providing more flexibility in addressing local requirements. Approvals were also granted to expedite road construction by allowing price adjustments in asphalt paving works under Rs 10 crore and monthly rate adjustments in EPC and HAM projects managed by MPRDC. Additionally, the construction cost of the multi-level parking facility at the High Court in Jabalpur, estimated at Rs 94.16 crore, was exempted from departmental index calculations.
