Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh has issued directives to enhance the visibility and sales of the state’s handloom and handicraft products. The aim is to preserve cultural heritage, empower artisans, and boost rural economic growth. During a recent meeting, the CM emphasized the promotion of state-owned brands like Mrignayani, Vindhya Valley, Kabira, and Prakrit at various locations across the state, including tourism units and religious centers.
Dr. Yadav instructed officials to conduct saree walkathons in different cities to celebrate and promote the tradition of wearing sarees. He also called for the expansion of silk production activities with private sector involvement. Additionally, the CM emphasized the need to create a consolidated database of all Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products from the state.
In a move to showcase the state’s handicraft products, special items like Maheshwari stoles packaged in wooden boxes featuring Gond paintings and bell metal craftsmanship have been selected for gifting purposes. Furthermore, exclusive saree designs inspired by Maheshwar Fort engravings are being developed to mark Ahilyadevi Holkar’s 300th birth anniversary. The state is also extending the ‘Silk Prosperity Scheme’ to all districts.
The recent achievements highlighted during the meeting include the sanctioning of 2,568 village industry units under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, distribution of grants worth Rs 63 crore, facilitation of bank loans amounting to Rs 252 crore, and the creation of 6,300 new jobs.
