Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has responded strongly to the alleged assault on a postgraduate student from Assam at the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) in Anuppur district. The victim, Hiros Jyoti Das, a 22-year-old student, was attacked in his room at the university hostel. The assailants, under the influence of an intoxicant, severely injured Das, resulting in a fractured nose and other injuries.
Das, a first-year Master’s student in Economics and an NCC cadet, was interrogated aggressively by unknown men about his background. The situation escalated when they learned he was from Assam, leading to a violent attack. The university administration has taken disciplinary action against the accused students, ensuring that justice is upheld. The incident has sparked protests on the university campus, demanding swift justice for the victim.
Superintendent of Police Moti Ur Rahman stated that the medical report did not confirm any fracture. The accused students have been rusticated from the university and will face legal action. An FIR has been registered based on Das’s complaint, charging the accused under relevant sections of the law. The university administration has initiated an internal inquiry aided by CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar highlighted the incident, mentioning alleged racist remarks made against Jyoti Das. The students have accused some individuals associated with the ruling party of drug consumption and violence on campus. However, Das did not mention racial discrimination in his complaint. The police have not made any arrests yet due to the nature of the offense and the students’ status.
