The political tension in Madhya Pradesh is escalating as the state Assembly readies for its significant Budget session starting on Monday. The government is set to present a substantial budget exceeding Rs 4 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, likely on February 18. Both the ruling coalition and the opposition are preparing strategies to scrutinize governance and fiscal planning thoroughly.
The session, comprising 19 sittings, will run until March 6, commencing with the Governor’s address that traditionally outlines the government’s accomplishments and future plans. Following this, the finance minister will present the detailed budget for 2026-27, covering revenue projections, expenditure allocations, and new policy initiatives.
Expectations are high for lively debates, pointed interrogations, and potential confrontations between the ruling and opposition parties in the Vidhan Sabha over the coming weeks. Members of the Legislative Assembly have submitted a record number of questions, totaling 3,478, indicating a strong intent to hold the administration accountable on various issues.
The questions, evenly split between oral and written formats, reflect a mix of traditional and digital submissions. The opposition has also intensified pressure with 192 call attention motions and eight adjournment motions, aiming to address urgent public concerns and trigger debates on critical matters.
Issues raised range from local problems like infrastructure deficiencies and water scarcity to broader concerns such as industrial development, education reforms, and fiscal management amidst increasing expenditure demands.
