With schools in Madhya Pradesh scheduled to reopen on June 16 post the summer break, the state government has initiated a drive to ensure full school enrolment, detect dropouts, and enhance learning outcomes in the upcoming academic term. The endeavor, part of the ‘School Chalein Hum’ initiative’s second phase and a statewide ‘Shala Prarambh Utsav’ (School Reopening Festival), will run from June 16 to June 30 across all government schools. Officials have been tasked by the School Education Department to guarantee the enrollment of all eligible children and prevent any student from being excluded from the education system.
Efforts are underway to locate and reintegrate children who are not attending school to ensure every child has access to education, as stated by the government on Monday. District and block-level officials have been directed to closely monitor the progress of school-wise enrollment to support the campaign. Additionally, a dedicated module has been introduced in the Child Tracking System of the Hamare Shikshak App to identify students awaiting promotion to the next grade and update their records before the new session begins.
In addition to enrollment, the state is focusing on enhancing the quality of education. A special action plan under ‘Mission Ankur’ will be rolled out to boost foundational literacy and numeracy, while addressing learning gaps identified through the FLN Survey 2025 with targeted academic interventions. The timely distribution of free textbooks to students has been mandated by the department, with online tracking through Education Portal 3.0 to oversee the movement of textbooks from depots to schools and eventually to students.
Equal emphasis is being placed on learning quality, textbook distribution, and essential facilities in schools alongside enrollment, according to an official statement. Schools are instructed to ensure the availability of clean drinking water, operational girls’ toilets, running water facilities, and other necessary amenities before students return. As part of the reopening program, students will engage in Bal Sabhas and special welcome activities, while parents of newly enrolled children will be invited to schools to learn about government schemes and educational provisions. Senior officers appointed by district collectors will also visit schools and engage with students during the campaign period.
