In a move benefiting contractual workers, the Madhya Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has approved a 4.46% annual increase in remuneration for contractual officers and employees. This raise, effective from April 1, 2026, will directly impact about 1 lakh contractual workers in state government departments. The revision aligns with the contractual employment policy outlined by the General Administration Department on July 22, 2023.
The policy mandates yearly remuneration adjustments for contractual staff based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to counter inflation effects. The latest increment of 4.46% for the fiscal year 2026-27 surpasses last year’s 3.87% hike. This means eligible contractual employees will see a more substantial rise in their monthly pay compared to previous adjustments. While Madhya Pradesh currently employs around 1.5 lakh contractual officers and employees in various departments, only those under the 2023 policy implementation will receive the increased remuneration.
The Contractual Officers and Employees Association has lauded the government’s decision but urges uniform application of CPI-based remuneration revisions to all contractual workers. The association stresses the importance of ensuring fairness and inclusivity across departments to guarantee every contractual employee benefits from the increment. This raise aims to uplift morale among contractual workers and assist them in managing escalating living expenses.
