The Madhya Pradesh government has taken strict action following the cruise accident at Bargi Reservoir in Jabalpur. Cruise pilot Mahesh Patel, helper Chhotelal Gond, and ticket counter in-charge Brijendra have been dismissed from service immediately. Sunil Maravi, manager of Hotel Maikal Resort and Boat Club Bargi, has been suspended for negligence, while Regional Manager Sanjay Malhotra is under inquiry at headquarters.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, after meeting bereaved families in Jabalpur, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence. During his visit to Bargi Dam, Yadav interacted with survivors and families, assuring them of government support. Rescue operations have recovered nine bodies and saved 28 individuals, with ongoing efforts to find the missing.

The state is deeply affected by the incident, prompting a review of safety measures to prevent future tragedies. Local residents, including Jal Jeevan Mission workers, played a vital role in assisting official rescue teams during the emergency. Relief measures include Rs 4 lakh financial aid from the state government to the deceased families and Rs 2 lakh ex gratia from PM Modi’s National Relief Fund for the victims’ next of kin.
