A recent ruling by the Madhya Pradesh High Court declaring the Bhojshala complex as a Hindu temple and King Bhoj’s property has stirred political responses. The court’s decision, which overturned the ASI’s 2003 order, grants exclusive worship rights to the Hindu side while rejecting pleas from the Muslim and Jain communities.
Opposition leaders, including Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy, criticized the judgment, labeling it as part of the BJP’s alleged Hindu-centric agenda. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha expressed concerns over religious disputes hindering the nation’s progress, emphasizing the need to resolve such issues in light of the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
Congress MPs, Imran Masood and Hussain Dalwai, denounced the court’s ruling, highlighting the diversion of focus from pressing national issues like unemployment and economic challenges. Dalwai further raised concerns about the treatment of other religious sites and communities, urging for a balanced approach in handling such matters.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ashutosh Verma called for refraining from political commentary on the issue until the final verdict is reached, emphasizing the importance of legal processes and avoiding premature judgments.
